I Did the Thing!

You know that thought or idea that just keeps tugging at you? Follow it!

It’s true what they say about “doing the thing.”
Stop talking about doing the thing.
Stop overthinking it.
Stop analyzing every angle.
Just. Do. The. Thing.

Well… I did the thing.

A Seed of an Idea

Back in February 2025, I approached our local nonprofit, the Villa Park Community Services Foundation of Villa Park (VPCSF). They are an amazing group of passionate, community-focused volunteers that genuinely make a difference for our residents in what we lovingly call the “Hidden Jewel.”

I followed my heart and pitched something new:
A Health & Wellness Fair.

Had I ever organized one before?
Nope.

I followed this tug on my heart —to bring wellness, prevention, and evidence-based health resources to our community in a way that felt accessible, empowering, and joyful. I sent over a simple outline with my vision, my “why,” and the potential benefits for the community. There was some interest and I was asked to present it at a Foundation meeting, and the rest is history!

From Idea to Action

Known for putting on amazing community events like HalloweenFest, the Dry Land Christmas Boat Parade, Concerts in the Park, Earth Day celebrations, and strong support for local schools, the Foundation embraced the opportunity to do something new. I embraced their ask to be the Chair of this new event offering and off I went to start planning the best way I knew how.

With their support and a dedicated planning committee of six, we brought the first annual “Spring Into Health” Wellness Fair to life on May 31, 2025.

What We Offered

Wellness in Action

We even took wellness outdoors on the main stage! Movement and community-building were front and center with:

Freebies & Fun

Each family received a FREE cinch bag filled with exhibitor goodies, plus a raffle ticket to win:

Why It Mattered

This event wasn’t just about information.
It was about connection, hope, and action.

  • It gave local businesses and health providers a chance to support and serve

  • It helped families explore practical ways to feel better and live healthier

  • It showed our community that health is possible—and it starts with you.

What’s Next?

We’re already planning for next year—this time with a 5K run/walk added to the festivities!

So, if you’re sitting on an idea or at a fork in the road, wondering if you should go for it...
YES. Do the thing.

Follow your heart and your intuition. You know that thought or idea that just keeps tugging at you? Follow it!

Do it scared. Do it to the best of your ability at this moment. Do it from the heart.
Because it’s all an experiment. If nothing else, a chance to learn and grow.

You never know who you’ll meet. ( Congresswoman Young Kim was in attendance. My first time meeting a Congresswoman. I also met so many wonderful people who love to also give back and are making a difference.)
You never know how it might grow. (A 5K is coming next year!)
You never know what you’re capable of... until you just do the thing.

And here I am with a blog—whether I feel totally ready or not, I’m just doing it!

Let’s see what happens.
